Iowa GOP chairman slams Steve King for tweet supporting far-right Dutch politician

The chairman of Iowa’s Republican Party is slamming Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) for his Twitter comment over the weekend supporting the views of a far-right Dutch politician.

“First of all, I do not agree with Congressman King’s statement. We are a nation of immigrants, and diversity is the strength of any nation and any community,” said Jeff Kaufmann.

King in a tweet on Sunday applauded Geert Wilders, including a cartoon of Wilders using his finger plug a hole in a wall that says “Western Civilization.” The cartoon came from an account called the Voice of Europe that does not appear to be affiliated with the Voice of America broadcasting network.

{mosads}“Wilders understands that culture and demographics are our destiny. We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies,” King wrote.

David Duke, the former leader of the Ku Klux Klan, then praised King’s tweets on Twitter.

“Just in case you were thinking about moving -> sanity reigns supreme in Iowa’s 4th congressional district.#MakeAmericaGreatAgain,” Duke wrote, quoting King’s tweet.

Kaufman in his statement also slammed Duke, saying he is not welcome in Iowa.

“Regarding David Duke, his words and sentiments are absolute garbage. He is not welcome in our wonderful state,” Kaufman said.
