EMILY’s List backs Ferguson opponent, special candidate

EMILY’s List endorsed New Jersey congressional candidate Linda Stender (D) and Ohio special election candidate Robin Weirauch (D) on Monday.

The endorsement was the second shot of good news in a few hours for Stender, who earlier in the day saw her opponent, Rep. Mike Ferguson (R-N.J.), announce he would not run for reelection.

{mosads}Ferguson beat Stender 49-48 last year, when Stender was also supported by the political action committee (PAC).

Weirauch could use the financial help in her uphill battle against state Rep. Bob Latta (R) in the district of the late Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio). Weirauch is looking to take advantage of a divisive GOP primary in the conservative district but has not raised significant money in this or two previous bids for the seat.

EMILY’s List supports women running for political office and was the top-spending PAC not tied to a party in 2006, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
