McCain’s national, Iowa press staffs bail out of campaign
Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) presidential campaign continues to endure mass resignations as the senator enters a third week of news of internal dysfunction.
{mosads}McCain’s national press staff, consisting primarily of Brian Jones, Matt David and Danny Diaz, are all leaving the campaign today. And one aide said that McCain’s Iowa press person, Tim Miller, will also resign.
“It has been my sincere honor and privilege to serve Sen. John McCain,” Diaz said in an e-mail. “Best of luck to each and every one of you in the days and weeks ahead.”
One aide to McCain who is leaving said the end came after a rough couple of weeks, but most involved wanted to help McCain enjoy a smooth transition after campaign manager Terry Nelson and senior adviser John Weaver resigned last week amid
dismal second quarter fundraising reports.
The press staff has a history with Nelson, and apparently their decision to leave was wholly influenced by his departure.
