Sens. Joe Biden (D-Del.) and Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) will hold a joint campaign event in Des Moines, Iowa, this Friday to promote their decentralization plan for Iraq.
{mosads}The two presidential hopefuls are polling in the single digits nationally and need a good showing in the country’s first caucus to keep their hopes for the nomination alive. The campaigns called the joint event “unprecedented.” The two senators are advocating a plan that would decentralize the Iraqi government and put in place a federal system.
The Senate passed a non-binding resolution supporting such a plan 75-23 last month. Both senators were lead sponsors, and Iowa's two senators also backed the plan.
“Joe and I might be running for the nomination of two different parties, but we agree on one thing: the American people want progress in Iraq and this represents a viable way forward to stability and success,” said Brownback.
“Partisan politics must not come in the way of finding a solution to the war in Iraq,” said Biden. “The overwhelming majority of Americans want us to get our troops out of Iraq as quickly as possible without leaving chaos behind.”
