Fetterman endorses Harris

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) threw his support behind Vice President Harris after President Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the race Sunday.

“Proud to support and be all in for the next president, @KamalaHarris,” Fetterman wrote Monday on the social platform X.

He also included a link to an ActBlue fundraising page to donate to Harris’s campaign. Just seven hours after Harris’s campaign for president was launched, small-dollar donors gave nearly $47 million on ActBlue to all races across the platform.

Biden announced Sunday he stepped aside in the presidential race and endorsed Harris to run as his replacement. His decision came after weeks of Democrats urging him to withdraw from the race following a disastrous debate performance with former President Trump last month.

Harris said Sunday she was “honored” to receive Biden’s backing, and she intends to “earn and win this nomination.”

While a handful of Democratic lawmakers called on Biden to step aside, Fetterman remained a staunch supporter of the president and frequently criticized those calling on the president to step down. After Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) called on Biden to remove himself from the race, Fetterman said he “strongly” disagreed with his colleague.

Now, Harris is raking in major endorsements in the first 24 hours of her campaign for president. Fetterman joined at least 28 other senators who have endorsed the vice president since Biden announced he was dropping out.
