Trump campaign announces first event with Vance

Former President Trump’s campaign announced Tuesday its first event featuring Trump and his new running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), since the Ohio Republican was formally selected to round out the GOP ticket.

Trump and Vance are set to campaign in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Saturday evening, according to the campaign.

The announcement comes less than 24 hours after Trump announced Vance as his vice presidential pick at Day 1 of the Republican National Convention.

The Ohio senator was among three Republicans under serious consideration. Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum were also in the running.

An aggregate of Michigan polls compiled by Decision Desk HQ shows a tight race between President Biden and Trump, with the two candidates essentially tied at 44 percent each. Michigan is among a handful of battleground states that will determine the presidency this fall.

Election forecaster Sabato’s Crystal Ball moved the state from “leans Democrat” to “toss up” following Biden’s disastrous debate last month, however, portending potential warning signs for the president heading into November.
