Congressional Republicans break fundraising record

The House Republicans’ campaign arm announced Friday it broke its fundraising record for a second quarter of an election year.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) said it raked in $37 million during April, May and June — the largest haul for House Republicans during the second quarter of an election year.

The NRCC noted the campaign arm raised $14.3 million in June, and it ends the quarter with close to $71 million in the bank. Almost $162 million has been raised in the cycle to date.

“While House Democrats were engaged in the biggest cover-up in American history lying about the president’s mental decline, the NRCC was furiously raising resources to hold them accountable for it,” NRCC Chair Richard Hudson said in a statement.

“We wouldn’t be in this strong financial position without our incredible leadership team who share our goal of growing the Republican House majority.”

The deadline for committees to report their second-quarter fundraising for this year is Monday. The House Democrats’ campaign arm has not yet released its quarterly fundraising numbers.

The development comes against the backdrop of an increasingly perilous situation for President Biden and Democrats; more than a dozen House Democrats and one sitting Senate Democrat have called on the president to withdraw from the race following his disastrous debate performance.

Since the debate, several nonpartisan election forecasters have shifted the state of Michigan from “lean Democrat” to “toss-up” — underscoring how the debate has suddenly shifted the dynamics of the race.

A forecast by Decision Desk HQ on Friday morning showed Republicans having a 62 percent chance of maintaining their majority in the House in November. The forecast also showed a 56 percent chance of former President Trump winning the White House and a 79 percent chance of Republicans winning the Senate.
