Trump calls attempts to link him to Project 2025 ‘pure disinformation’

Former President Trump called attempts to link him to Project 2025 “pure disinformation” Thursday.

“I know nothing about Project 2025. I have not seen it, have no idea who is in charge of it, and, unlike our very well received Republican Platform, had nothing to do with it,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Project 2025, which comes from conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation, is a 900-page “governing agenda” describing conservative aims in the case that a Republican captures the White House in this year’s upcoming election. Despite Trump trying to create space between himself and Project 2025, contributors to the plan include ex-Trump administration officials Ben Carson and Ken Cuccinelli. Project 2025 is also headed up by former Trump administration official Paul Dans.

CNN found a minimum of 140 people who had been part of the Trump administration were involved in Project 2025, the outlet reported Thursday.

“The Radical Left Democrats are having a field day, however, trying to hook me into whatever policies are stated or said,” Trump continued in the post. “It is pure disinformation on their part. By now, after all of these years, everyone knows where I stand on EVERYTHING!  DJT[.]”

Trump said in a similar Truth Social post last week that he didn’t “know anything” about the 900-page strategy, which has also been described as a “presidential transition plan.”

“I have no idea who is behind it,” he said. “I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”

A spokesperson for Project 2025 restated in a post to social platform X that it doesn’t speak for candidates or campaigns, in response to last week’s post from Trump.

The Biden campaign has pushed back on Trump’s claims he is not linked to Project 2025.

“Despite Donald Trump’s lies, his extreme Project 2025 agenda is written and led by his own inner circle – the same extremists who stacked Trump’s first administration with loyalists and fired anyone who opposed his dangerous instincts, and the same enablers who will help Trump go even further to ‘terminate’ the Constitution, get ‘revenge’ on his enemies, and govern as a ‘dictator on day one’ if he wins this November,” Sarafina Chitika, a spokesperson for the Biden campaign, said in an emailed statement to The Hill. “Donald Trump and Project 2025 are one in the same – and they’re both going to lose this November.”

Democratic lawmakers have openly expressed concerns about Project 2025, with some House Democrats launching a campaign against the plan in early June.

“Americans don’t understand just how far down the road to a dystopic, right-wing theocracy we are right now,” Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.), a leader of the effort, said. “And that, for me at least, is the priority: making sure people know it, and making sure we’re ready to confront it.”

The Hill has reached out to the Heritage Foundation.
