Trump wins Montana Republican primary
Former President Trump has won the Republican presidential primary in Montana, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ.
The win in Big Sky Country could add another 31 delegates into the presumptive Republican nominee’s column.
He and President Biden were alone on the presidential primary ballots, but voters had a chance to cast a vote for a “no preference” option. Both candidates have faced notable protest vote pushes from within their parties in the primary process — as Biden sees frustration over the Israel-Hamas war, and as Trump sees some Republicans casting ballots for Nikki Haley, who was his last significant challenger to drop out of the race.
Trump is expected to win the red state in November – he won by 20 percentage points against Hillary Clinton in 2016 and beat Biden by 16 points in 2020.
The latest 2024 forecasts from Decision Desk HQ/The Hill have the former president easily favored to win the state again this fall.
Montana is among the last of the state primaries Tuesday night. Next week, two more contests in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam will close out the primary process and kick focus toward the party conventions this summer.
