Trump leading Biden by 4 points across key swing states: Polling

Former President Trump is leading President Biden across multiple swing states by 4 points, according to a survey released this week.

The Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll found that in a hypothetical rematch between Trump and Biden across seven battleground states — including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — the former president brought in 48 percent of the vote to Biden’s 44 percent.

When adding in third-party and independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West and Jill Stein, Trump still held a 4-point lead over the incumbent, 44 percent to 40 percent respectively. Kennedy garnered 7 percent of the vote, while West and Stein each brought in only 1 percent, the survey found.

The results are similar to those from a recent poll from The New York Times, which found Trump ahead of Biden by 3 percentage points in Pennsylvania, 5 points in Michigan, 7 points in Arizona, 10 points in Georgia and 12 points in Nevada. However, in Wisconsin, the sitting president led Trump by 2 points.

Biden won each of the six states in the 2020 election, but not by large amounts.

The Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll also found more voters in the swing states said the country’s economy was “better off” under the Trump administration.

Roughly 51 percent of registered voters in the survey said the economy was more robust under the former president. About 36 percent of voters said it was “better off” under Biden, and 13 percent said it has been “about the same” under both administrations.

On the flip side, more voters said they trusted Biden for issues related to climate change. Roughly 47 percent of those surveyed said they trusted the incumbent to address climate issues, compared to Trump’s 34 percent. About 15 percent answered “neither.”

Voters will get to see Biden and Trump clash in person quite soon on their policy agendas, as the two rapidly agreed to two debates last week, with one set for the end of June.

The Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll was conducted May 7-13, with a sample of 4,962 registered voters from the seven swing states. The margin of error for the survey is plus or minus 1 percentage point.
