Former national security adviser John Bolton revealed he will write in former Vice President Dick Cheney for president in November — for the second time.

“Well, I might as well say it now. I voted for Dick Cheney,” Bolton told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Wednesday on “The Source,” when asked who he wrote in for president in the 2020 election. “And I’ll vote for Dick Cheney again this November.”

Collins noted that Bolton had not previously disclosed the information. Asked why he has thrown his support behind Cheney, Bolton said he believed the former vice president would be better than President Biden and former President Trump.

“Because he was a principled Reaganite conservative, and he still is. Age is no longer a factor in American presidential politics, so his age doesn’t disqualify him. And I think you do an immensely better job than either Trump or Biden,” he said.

Cheney, 83, served as vice president to former President George W. Bush and served in Congress representing Wyoming.

His daughter, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), has emerged as a vocal critic of Trump, especially in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. When asked if he would support her if she launched a presidential bid, Bolton did not close the door to the possibility.

“Well, I like Liz a lot,” he replied. “And, you know, maybe someday she’ll get my write-in vote too. But right now, stick with her father.”

Bolton has also been a frequent critic of Trump since leaving his administration.

He has warned that the Russian government will celebrate if the former president is elected to a second term and has cautioned that the U.S. may leave NATO under another Trump administration.
