Cuban says he’d vote for Biden even if ‘he was being given last rites’

Mark Cuban, the former owner of the Dallas Mavericks, said he would cast his vote for President Biden over former President Trump in November, even if “he was being given last rites.”

“If they were having his last wake, and it was him versus Trump, and he was being given last rites, I would still vote for Joe Biden,” Cuban told Bloomberg News in a piece released Monday, referring to a Catholic tradition of praying over someone who is close to death.

The billionaire also told the outlet that he plans to vote for former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley in the Texas GOP primary Tuesday as “a protest vote against Trump,” but that he would still support the current president versus the former one.

Texas is one of more than a dozen states holding primaries for both parties on Super Tuesday, alongside states such as Arkansas, California and Virginia.

Cuban, an investor of the hit show “Shark Tank,” has been a vocal critic of the former president in recent years, praising his ban from Twitter, now X, and other social media in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, saying it was “the right thing to do.”

“If I realized that something I sold was being used for something that was nefarious or wrong, I would stop it,” he said.

“How is this any different?” Cuban continued. “Putting aside the [Terms of Service], It’s just the right thing to do.”

Cuban also shot down speculation that he himself would run for president back in November, stating he had “no plans” to do so in an email to NBC News, despite toying with the idea in the past. Back in 2020, he said that while there wasn’t much of a chance for him in a race for the Oval Office, he had not “closed the door” on the idea.

“It was closed, but we have such crazy times and I’ve been getting so many requests that I at least want to keep the door open, but it’s still highly unlikely,” Cuban said at the time. “There would have to be something more than the pandemic.”
