Sununu says Trump has ‘no energy’: ‘He can barely read a teleprompter’

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) blasted former President Trump for having “no energy” ahead of the Granite State’s primaries Tuesday.

Sununu, who has endorsed Nikki Haley, told CNN’s Jake Tapper that the former United Nations ambassador has the momentum to perform well in New Hampshire’s primary, where she is the only remaining major challenger to Trump. He also took aim at the former president, who faced some blowback after appearing to mix up Haley with former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) at a campaign event last week.

“So you know, it’s all about the voter turnout,” Sununu said on CNN’s “The Lead.” “It’s all about the enthusiasm, where’s the energy. Not just what people say on a phone or how they you know, respond to an online text or something.”

“It’s really about the energy of that campaign. Trump has no energy — the guy can barely read a teleprompter right now. All the wind is behind … Nikki’s sails. So I just think the sky’s the limit,” Sununu added. 

Sununu has been a frequent surrogate for Haley as she hopes to pull off an upset win in his state this week. He also responded to former GOP presidential candidates Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.) all endorsing the former president in recent days. 

Sununu said Haley did not want the endorsement from any of her former rivals anyway. 

“Nikki Haley doesn’t want establishment endorsements,” Sununu said. “She doesn’t want any of them. She really doesn’t. Look, Trump has … gone from the disrupter to this establishment guy. He’s never held the Senate accountable. Nikki Haley wants term limits. She says none of them should get paid unless they actually do their job.”

According to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ polling average, Trump is leading Haley in New Hampshire by nearly 14 percentage points with 50.6 percent of support. Haley trails the former president with nearly 37 percent of support.
