Whitmer PAC announces first round of 2024 endorsements

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) new Fight Like Hell PAC announced its first round of endorsements for federal candidates running in the general election.

On Tuesday, the PAC formally endorsed Reps. Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.), Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.), Susan Wild (D-Pa.),  Chris DeLuzio (D-Pa.), Jahana Hayes (D-Conn.), Emilia Sykes (D-Ohio), Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) and Angie Craig (D-Minn.).

A number of the endorsed candidates are facing potential uphill reelection bids. The non-partisan Cook Political Report rates Wild and Sykes’s respective districts as “toss-ups,” while DeLuzio and Hayes’s respective districts are considered “lean Democratic.” The election forecaster rated Scholten and Craig’s districts as “likely Democrat.”

“I started Fight Like Hell in order to do everything I can to support candidates up and down the ballot, like President Biden and Vice President Harris, who are fighting like hell for everyday Americans and the will of the majority,” Whitmer said in a statement.

“Now, I’m excited to announce the endorsement of eight candidates who similarly embody these ideals, and have proven their dedication as members of Congress to addressing kitchen table issues and defending our everyday freedoms. Each and every one of these U.S. representatives has been a champion for their constituents, and I’m committed to helping them secure re-election in 2024,” she continued.

Democrats say they feel optimistic about their prospects of taking back the House in 2024. The governor, herself, is seen as a rising star within the Democratic Party.

While Whitmer’s PAC will aid Democrats running at the federal level across the country, Michigan stands to be a battleground state in 2024. In 2020, Biden won the state by under three points. The state also has an open Senate seat, which the nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates as “lean Democratic.”
