Lake said she would be ‘honored’ if Trump campaigned for her

Kari Lake said Tuesday that she would be “honored” if former President Trump campaigned for her as she vies for Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s (I-Ariz.) seat in the Arizona Senate race.

“I would be honored if President Trump would campaign for me, absolutely. Are you kidding me?” Lake told The Hill in a phone interview. “And I think — ask a lot of people around this country who are running, they would love to have President Trump’s endorsement. I’m honored to have his endorsement.”

Lake also said she’d welcome support from Senate Republican leaders for her campaign.

“I’d be honored if they would campaign with me and endorse me, but I’m really looking for the endorsement of the people of Arizona,” she said.

Lake’s comments come just more than a month since the former gubernatorial candidate launched her candidacy for the Senate. Trump endorsed her shortly after her announcement.

She’s vying for the seat against Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.). Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb is running on the GOP side, though Lake is considered the heavy favorite in the primary.

Sinema has not said whether she’s running again for her seat, but recent polling has shown her trailing both Gallego and Lake.

An internal poll from Gallego’s campaign found him leading at 41 percent support, with Lake at 36 percent and Sinema at 15 percent. But a poll from the Republican firm National Research Inc. showed Lake at 37 percent support, with Gallego at 33 percent and Sinema at 19 percent.
