Biden campaign bashes Scott for touting drug price caps that he voted against

President Biden’s reelection campaign bashed presidential candidate Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) for touting drug prices caps for seniors after voting against the Inflation Reduction Act.

In a video first shared with The Hill, the campaign mashed up clips of Scott celebrating capping costs for seniors and saying that the Inflation Reduction Act, which Scott voted against, should be eliminated.

“One of the things we did for our seniors in the last Congress, not this Congress, last Congress, is we were able to cap out-of-pocket expenses, and that’s a really good thing,” Scott said in an interview with KCCI Des Moines this week.

The video then flashes to Scott in a Senate hearing, bashing the legislation that Biden signed into law in August 2022.

“I would simply eliminate the IRA, the Inflation Reduction Act, which of course is a lie from the pit of hell. I would start the process of gutting that legislation,” Scott said.

The Inflation Reduction Act allows Medicare to negotiate the price of prescription drugs and caps the price of insulin at $35 for seniors.

The bill is a signature accomplishment for Biden and has been targeted by other lawmakers looking to claw back some of its provisions, such as the tax incentives for clean energy and electric vehicles.

Biden has called out other lawmakers, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), for voting against legislation he championed but then touting in their districts benefits of it, such as investments in manufacturing.
