NewsNation to host a town hall with Pence

Cable news network NewsNation announced Wednesday that it will host former Vice President Mike Pence — now a 2024 presidential candidate — for a live town hall next week.

The event, slated for 9 p.m. EDT on Sept. 13, will be moderated by the network’s chief Washington anchor, Leland Vittert, and will take place in front of a live studio audience and a remote audience of Iowa voters.

The network noted that the town hall is scheduled around four months before the Iowa caucuses. It also comes roughly two weeks before the second Republican presidential debate, which is set for Sept. 27 in Simi Valley, Calif.

NewsNation last month hosted GOP White House hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy for a town hall event, and hosted Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in June.

Pence is running for the White House in a crowded GOP field that includes his ex-running mate, former President Trump. The pair ran for and lost reelection in 2020, and Pence broke with Trump amid the transfer of power surrounding Jan. 6, 2021.

Polling indicated Pence saw a slight bump after the first GOP debate last month. The latest Morning Consult poll, taken Sept. 2-4, shows Pence at 6 percent — behind Ramaswamy’s 8 percent, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s 15 percent and Trump’s 60 percent.

NewsNation is owned by Nexstar Media Group, which also owns The Hill.
