Former President Trump has raised $7.1 million since he was booked at the Fulton County jail on Thursday evening, where he became the first U.S. president to have his mug shot taken, his campaign confirmed to The Hill on Saturday.
Trump, who is the frontrunner in the 2024 Republican primary race, raised $4.18 million on Friday alone, marking the highest-grossing day of his entire campaign, a spokesperson said. The former president’s fundraising haul was first reported by Politico.
The campaign has brought in nearly $20 million in the last three weeks, amid two separate indictments over the former president’s efforts to remain in power after the 2020 election.
Trump was indicted on federal charges in special counsel Jack Smith’s Jan. 6 probe in early August, and last week, he was indicted alongside 18 others by a Fulton County grand jury over his efforts to overturn the results of the election in Georgia.
The former president and his co-defendants in the Georgia case were required to surrender at the Fulton County jail by Friday. Even though Trump has been indicted three other times this year, Fulton County was the first to require a mug shot.
Trump has fundraised off the mug shot, urging supporters to donate and selling T-shirts, mugs, koozies and bumper stickers with the photo and the phrase “Never surrender.” The former president also made his long-awaited return to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to post the mug shot and a link to his campaign website.
He was banned from the social media platform after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, but had his account reinstated after billionaire Elon Musk bought the site for $44 billion last fall.
