Christie says booing from GOP debate crowd came from those ‘invested’ in ‘swamp’ Trump created

GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie said some of the booing he faced from the audience at the first Republican primary debate came from those who are “invested” in a “swamp” created by former President Donald Trump during an interview with Fox News on Thursday evening.

“And let’s face it. Who was booing me in the crowd last night?” Christie said on Fox’s “Your World” in an interview with anchor Neil Cavuto. “Some of the folks who were doing the loudest booing are the people who are invested in the swamp that Donald Trump helped to create for them in Washington, D.C.”

Christie, the former New Jersey governor and an outspoken Trump rival, heavily criticized the former president Wednesday during his debate appearance. In response to his being questioned about his hesitance in raising his hand by the moderators when the candidates were asked to do so if they would continue to support Trump as the Republican candidate of choice in spite of his legal woes, Christie chastised the former president for his actions.

“Here’s the bottom line. Someone’s got to stop normalizing this conduct, OK? … Now, whether or not — whether or not you believe that the criminal charges are right or wrong, the conduct is beneath the office of president of the United States,” Christie said.

The comment saw Christie met with the aforementioned booing from the debate audience. 

Trump is set to turn himself into Fulton County authorities Thursday evening after being indicted last week in District Attorney Fani Willis’s case against him and 18 other co-defendants related to efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. He is expected to get a mug shot.
