Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) on Tuesday secured her second Senate term, fending off a challenge from Democrat Jane Raybould.
Fischer was expected to keep her seat in Nebraska, a deep red state, and she maintained a significant fundraising edge over Raybould throughout the campaign.
{mosads}The Nebraska Republican won in 2012 after an upset in the GOP primary over then-state Attorney General Jon Bruning and State Treasurer Don Stenberg.
Both Fischer and Raybould ran a significant amount of television ads emphasizing their close ties to the state in the final weeks of the campaign, according to The Daily Journal.
Raybould sought to frame Fischer as a Washington insider, while Fischer touted her work in the Senate that focused on agriculture and the military.
