GOP presidential candidate Will Hurd: Trump ‘baggage’ will result in Biden reelection

Republican White House hopeful Will Hurd said Tuesday that the latest criminal charges against GOP front-runner former President Trump show how his “baggage” would hinder him in a general election.

“Another day, another indictment, and another example of how the former president’s baggage will hand Joe Biden reelection if Trump is the Republican nominee,” Hurd said in a statement.

The former Texas congressman said Trump “will use this latest indictment to as another opportunity to manipulate Americans into paying his legal bills.”

“It’s time we move beyond dealing with the former president’s baggage,” Hurd added. “The Republican Party needs a leader who isn’t afraid of bullies like Trump and who understands the complex issues facing our country – from complicated technologies that will affect our economy and global power structures that will determine our position in the world. We need a leader who understands our adversaries because he he has fought them firsthand.”

A day earlier, Trump and 18 of his allies were indicted by a Georgia grand jury on charges tied to efforts to overturn the 2020 election in the state.

Trump, who announced his third presidential campaign last November, has been hit with three other indictments this year, relating to his business dealings and a 2016 hush money payment, his handling of classified documents, and his actions in the aftermath of the 2020 election.
