New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is projected to win a third term as the Empire State’s chief executive and easily vanquish his Republican challenger.
Cuomo is projected to have defeated Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro (R) and secure four more years as New York governor.
The Associated Press called the race in Cuomo’s favor shortly after polls closed in New York at 9 p.m. Eastern.
Cuomo, heir to a powerful New York political dynasty, was expected to easily win reelection despite falling popularity. He is rumored to be one of dozens of Democratic politicians mulling a 2020 presidential bid.
