Biden records robocall for Detroit mayor

Former Vice President Joe Biden recorded a robocall for the mayor of Detroit on the eve of the city’s primary election.

“We’ve all seen what happens in this country when people don’t vote. So vote,” Biden says in the call, which was posted on Twitter by a reporter for Crain’s Detroit Business.

“Please get out to the polls tomorrow and support the reelection of this good man, Mike Duggan.”

{mosads}Duggan, a member of the Democratic Party, has served as Detroit’s mayor since 2014.

“Mike Duggan is a very good friend of mine. No mayor in America has done a better job for their city than Mike has done for Detroit,” Biden says in the call. 

The former vice president said he visited Detroit under Duggan’s tenure, noting a revival has taken place in the years since he was elected.

“The recovery has started, and I know Mayor Duggan won’t quit until that recovery has spread to every Detroiter.”

Detroit will host its nonpartisan primary election on Tuesday. Eight candidates are in the running, and the top two contenders will head to the general election in November. 

In a poll conducted last month, Duggan led state Sen. Coleman Young Jr. (D) by 34 percentage points, The Detroit News reported.
