House GOP targets Dems over ObamaCare during recess

The House GOP’s campaign arm is targeting five vulnerable Democrats over ObamaCare while they’re in their home districts for the two-week spring recess.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is launching a series of digital billboards, which were first shown to The Hill, highlighting each Democrats’ support for ObamaCare and urging constituents to contact their representatives.

The NRCC will unveil a new target each day this week, starting with freshman Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) on Monday. Gottheimer is a top GOP target in 2018 after ousting seven-term Rep. Scott Garrett (R-N.J.) in the 2016 election.

{mosads}The billboards are the NRCC’s first major activity within Democrats’ districts of the 2018 cycle as Republicans seek to defend their House majority.

Democrats point to the historical trend that the party of the incumbent president typically loses seats in midterm elections, though it would still be an uphill battle for them to regain control of the lower chamber.

Healthcare has also become a hot-button issue in 2017 as Republicans seek to dismantle ObamaCare.

House GOP leadership unveiled a bill that would repeal and replace ObamaCare with full support from President Trump’s administration.

But after the moderate and conservative wings of the party disagreed with certain parts of the bill, the legislation was ultimately pulled from a vote on the House floor.

Since then, Republicans have been trying to revive the bill. Trump is looking to make compromises among party factions, but lawmakers headed home for recess with no deal.
