RNC fundraising off Stein’s recount effort

The Republican National Committee (RNC) is fundraising off the presidential recount in Wisconsin requested by Green Party nominee Jill Stein.

The RNC’s message urges supporters to donate to a “Recount Defense Fund” to counter Stein and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

{mosads}“[H]elp us fight back against Hillary Clinton and her allies as they drag our country through a pointless recount,” said the email from Chris Carr, the RNC’s political director.

“Even Hillary’s legal counsel admitted that there is no ‘actionable evidence of hacking’ of voting machines. This recount is nothing but a distraction — and a preview of the lengths to which liberals are willing to go over the next four years to try to stop us.”

Reports emerged last Friday that Wisconsin would undertake a recount after two requests from third-party candidates.

The Wisconsin Election Commission is now working under a Dec. 13 deadline to finish re-tabulating the votes. Wisconsin carries 10 electoral votes.

Republican nominee Donald Trump flipped the traditionally blue state on Election Day, besting Clinton by more than 20,000 votes.

An attorney for Clinton’s campaign on Saturday, meanwhile, said it will participate in the Wisconsin recount.

Marc Elias, the campaign’s general counsel, emphasized that analysts employed by the campaign have largely found no evidence to conclude that the election was tampered with.

Trump, now the president-elect, on Sunday blasted the recount movement, calling it a waste of money and time that would change nothing.

“The American people voted for Donald Trump to, among other things, show their disgust for the games our politicians have been playing for decades — yet this latest charade proves the left hasn’t learned a single thing from the 2016 election,” Carr wrote in the RNC email.

Stein is pressing forward on recount efforts elsewhere, having raised millions of dollars for the effort.

The Green Party standard-bearer on Monday filed for a recount in Pennsylvania and plans to trigger a similar move in Michigan before a Wednesday deadline.
