Kansas independent flirts with GOP

Independent Greg Orman signaled Tuesday that he hasn’t ruled out caucusing with Republicans if he beats Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.).

Orman has been hit with a barrage of GOP attacks, since it became clear he could defeat Roberts, but on Tuesday, he said he was willing to work with either party.

{mosads}“Sure, sure — either party. If they’re willing to solve our problems, I’m willing to work with them,” he said on MSNBC, after the hosts of “Morning Joe” noted he hadn’t given a yes-or-no answer as to whether he would consider caucusing with the GOP.

Orman has said repeatedly that his decision would be influenced by which party ends up with a majority in the Senate. He made a similar argument on Tuesday.

“If we are the deciding vote, if we are the swing vote, I think that’s a great opportunity to both define a problem-solving agenda in the Senate and also hold the majority accountable, whoever the majority happens to be,” he said.

Republicans have tried to paint Orman as a Democrat running as an independent.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has said it is highly unlikely that Orman would actually caucus with Republicans. Priebus and other Republicans have pointed to campaign donations that Orman made to Democratic candidates as evidence.
