56 percent of voters expect Trump to be reelected: poll

A majority of registered voters in a new poll says President Trump will win reelection in 2020.

The survey from Politico–Morning Consult released early Wednesday finds 56 percent of voters expect Trump to be reelected, with 35 percent of Democrats joining 85 percent of Republicans and 51 percent of independents in saying the president will win a second term in the Oval Office.

{mosads}Nearly a third of respondents also said they will cast ballots next November with Trump at the top of their minds.

Roughly 40 percent of respondents said they will be thinking of Trump “a lot” when voting, including 68 percent of Republicans.

More than 8 in 10 voters in the new survey say they are motivated to turn out and vote next year, with 69 percent reporting they are “very motivated.” Majorities of Republican, Democratic and independent voters said they are “very motivated” to cast ballots in the upcoming presidential election.

“President Trump’s reelection prospects seem to be energizing voter enthusiasm across the political spectrum,” Tyler Sinclair, Morning Consult’s vice president, told Politico. “Our data points show that Republicans and Democrats are equally inclined to say they are motivated and likely to vote in next year’s election.”

The poll was conducted Nov. 1–3 and surveyed 1,983 registered voters using online methods. The margin of error for the poll is 2 percentage points.
