Poll: Blackburn leads Dem opponent by 8 points in Tennessee Senate race

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) leads former Gov. Phil Bredesen (D) by 8 percentage points in Tennessee’s Senate race, according to a poll released Thursday.

The Emerson College poll found that 52 percent of likely voters surveyed backed Blackburn, compared to 44 percent who supported Bredesen. Three percent of voters were undecided.

Blackburn holds a significant lead among likely male voters, the poll found, 57 percent supporting her and 38 percent saying they would vote for Bredesen.

{mosads}Among likely women voters, Bredesen had a 1-point lead over Blackburn, 49 percent to 48 percent.

The poll surveyed 632 likely voters from Oct. 28-30, and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.

The results track closely with other recent polls that showed Blackburn with a more comfortable lead in the closing days of a key Senate race. A RealClearPolitics average of polls shows her leading by 7.2 percentage points.

Bredesen, who served as governor from 2003 to 2011, received a boost earlier this month when Taylor Swift endorsed him. The music superstar, who previously had not endorsed any political candidates, slammed Blackburn’s voting record in a lengthy Instagram post.

But Blackburn has been endorsed by President Trump, who will visit Tennessee on Sunday for a campaign rally.
