Harris tests negative for COVID-19 after close contact with aide

Vice President Harris has tested negative for the novel coronavirus after being in close contact with an aide who tested positive for the virus. 

Harris’s office said on Friday that Harris took a PCR test in the morning and tested negative for COVID-19. 

Harris previously tested negative for the virus on Wednesday after coming in close contact with a staffer who had tested positive for the virus. 

The staffer, who is fully vaccinated and boosted, tested negative earlier in the week and every day the prior week, the vice president’s office said on Wednesday. 

Harris is fully vaccinated against the virus with the Moderna vaccine, and also received her booster shot last month, her office noted. 

The U.S. is currently dealing with a winter surge of COVID-19 infections as the omicron variant has taken hold across the nation.

Sens. Chris Coons (D-Del.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) along with Reps. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) and Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) have all tested positive for COVID-19. 

President Biden also tested negative for COVID-19 on Wednesday after coming in close contact with an aide who had tested positive for the virus. 

Second gentleman Doug Emhoff also tested negative for the virus, Harris’s office said, via The Associated Press.
