Biden to nominate Caroline Kennedy as ambassador to Australia: report
President Biden is slated to nominate Caroline Kennedy to be U.S. ambassador to Australia, CNN reported.
Kennedy previously served as ambassador to Japan under former President Obama and is the daughter of former President John F. Kennedy. Victoria Kennedy, her aunt and the widow of Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.), was named ambassador to Austria earlier this week.
Kennedy supported Biden during the campaign, was a donor for the president, and spoke at the Democratic convention in August 2020 alongside her son, Jack Schlossberg.
The White House did not confirm the nomination to The Hill. CNN cited three people familiar with the search process.
Kennedy was the first female ambassador to Japan and was confirmed unanimously by the Senate in 2013. She is the only surviving child of the former president and former First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis.
Axios first reported in May that Kennedy was in the running for ambassador to Australia. The previous ambassador to Australia, Arthur Culvahouse, left at the end of the Trump administration.
