Majority approves of Biden, priorities: CNN poll
A majority of Americans approve of the job President Biden is doing and think he has the right priorities while serving in the White House, according to a new CNN poll.
Fifty-three percent of respondents approve of the way Biden is handling the job and say he has had the right priorities during his first 100 days in office, the poll released Wednesday found. Fifty-nine percent say he “is doing a good job keeping his campaign promises.”
A sizable 66 percent of Americans say they think Biden has done a good job responding to the coronavirus pandemic, including 30 percent from Republicans on the issue.
Biden has made an aggressive rollout of coronavirus vaccines a priority, announcing earlier this month that all U.S. adults are now eligible for inoculation. On Tuesday, the president announced updated guidance for mask wearing outdoors among vaccinated people.
The 30 percent approval from Republicans on Biden’s handling of the coronavirus is 16 points higher than he received from the GOP on any other issue polled, CNN noted.
After the coronavirus, Biden’s next highest marks overall come for his handling on environmental and racial justice issues, with 54 percent of those surveyed approving of his handling on each.
Earlier this year, Biden pledged that the U.S. would join the Paris climate accord and delivered an address to the nation after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of murdering George Floyd last week.
Biden’s lowest marks in the CNN poll come on taxes and foreign affairs, on which he was rated at 50 and 48 percent, respectively.
The poll was conducted April 21-26 among 1,004 U.S. adults. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
