Biden accompanies first lady to medical procedure

President Biden accompanied first lady Jill Biden to a medical procedure in downtown Washington, D.C., on Wednesday morning.

The White House said that the first lady underwent a “common medical procedure” and that she “tolerated” it well, without offering more specifics. The president and first lady were at an outpatient center for less than two hours.

“The First Lady tolerated the procedure well and is headed back to the White House to resume her normal schedule,” Jill Biden’s communications director, Elizabeth Alexander, said in a statement.

President Biden does not have any public events until Wednesday afternoon, when he will deliver remarks on his plans to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan by Sept. 11 of this year.

Later, he will visit Arlington National Cemetery to pay respects to service members who lost their lives in the war in Afghanistan.

The first lady does not have any public events on her schedule on Wednesday. She is next slated to travel to Illinois on Monday with Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to visit a local community college, Sauk Valley Community College.
