Pence to join Heritage Foundation

Former Vice President Mike Pence will join the Heritage Foundation as a distinguished visiting fellow, the organization announced Thursday.

The position will give Pence a foothold at a prominent Washington, D.C., conservative think tank as he plans his political future.

“The @Heritage Foundation is a flagship of the conservative movement and I am profoundly honored to join them as a distinguished visiting fellow to advance conservative policies that will benefit every American,” Pence tweeted.

Pence will deliver a series of policy speeches while at Heritage and write a monthly column for the organization’s media arm.

Pence a day earlier announced the creation of a post-White House transition office based in Northern Virginia, where the former vice president and former second lady are living. The two are expected to move back to their home state of Indiana this summer.

“The Vice President and Mrs. Pence look forward to continuing to elevate causes that are near and dear to their hearts and serving the American people when called upon,” the transition office said in a statement.

Pence is expected to remain a player in conservative politics with an eye on a potential 2024 presidential run. But those plans may be complicated by the end of his term as vice president, which saw his relationship with former President Trump fracture.

Trump had urged Pence to intervene in the certification of electoral votes affirming Biden as president, something Pence said he did not have the authority to do.

Pro-Trump rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 were heard chanting threats against Pence, who was whisked away by security before returning to finish the certification.

Pence attended Joe Biden’s swearing in on Jan. 20, while Trump flew to Florida hours before it took place.
