Trump to visit California Monday amid West Coast wildfires

President Trump will visit California on Monday as wildfires continue to rage across the West Coast. 

The president will visit McClellan Park, Calif., on Monday to be briefed by local officials on the wildfires, White House spokesperson Judd Deere told The Hill.

McClellan Park has served as a base for firefighter operations in northern California. 

News of Trump’s visit comes amid his travel through the West that started Saturday. He will host campaign events in Nevada and Arizona.

In August, Trump approved a major disaster declaration for California, unlocking federal emergency aid. On Thursday, the White House approved an emergency declaration for Oregon as well.

At least 26 people have died from the fires on the West Coast as of Saturday, CNN reported. 

Since mid-August Trump and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) have spoken by phone, and the White House and Federal Emergency Management Agency have remained in contact with state and local officials throughout the response to the fires, Deere said.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) said at a press conference Friday that she spoke with President Trump on Thursday and told him “that the situation on the ground was extremely dire.”

“He said you have all of our support, please let us know what you need and God bless Oregon,” Brown said.
