Trump posts SpongeBob meme mocking federal workers after email requesting accomplishments
President Trump posted a “SpongeBob SquarePants” meme mocking federal employees in the wake of an email sent to the workforce asking them to document their achievements from the past week.
The meme the president posted on his Truth Social platform features the Nickelodeon show’s title character looking at a notepad with a heading that reads “Got Done Last Week.”
Items on the list include “Cried about Trump,” “Cried about Elon,” “Made it into the office for once,” “Read some emails” and “Cried about Trump and Elon some more.”
Over the weekend, Musk said federal employees had to describe their work efforts in the past week by email.
“Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week,” Musk wrote on his social platform X on Saturday.
“Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation,” the tech billionaire continued.
“Please reply to this email with approx. 5 bullet points of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager. Please do not send any classified information, links or attachments,” said the email, which has been reviewed by The Hill. “Deadline is Monday at 11:59pmEST.”
Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.) criticized Musk over the message on social media.
“This is the ultimate d‑‑‑ boss move from Musk – except he isn’t even the boss, he’s just a d‑‑‑” the Minnesota senator said on X, replying to his earlier post.
“I bet a lot of people have had an experience like this with a bad boss – there’s an email in your inbox on Saturday night saying, ‘Prove to me your worthiness by Monday or else,’” Smith added in a second post. “I’m on the side of the workers, not the billionaire a‑‑hole bosses.”
The Hill has reached out to Nickelodeon for comment.
