Roger Stone to surrender to prison by June 30

Roger Stone, the convicted longtime ally of President Trump, is due to report to federal prison by June 30, though he will not have to quarantine himself at a special federal site beforehand. 

Stone posted about about the date on his Instagram account Thursday, writing the messages “#deathsentence” and “#freerogerstone.” 

“The Bureau of Prisons has changed the date … of my surrender to June 30 but I will NOT be quarantined for Covid-19,” Stone wrote in the post.

Stone’s message on not needing to quarantine himself in prison comes despite a U.S. Bureau of Prisons (BOP) directive saying it would “process all newly-sentenced Bureau inmates through one of three quarantine sites” or at a federal detention facility. 

The BOP did not immediately respond to an inquiry from The Hill, though a spokesperson for the bureau told The Associated Press that Stone will not be required to quarantine at a designated quarantine facility because he is self-surrendering. 

He will, however, undergo a 14-day quarantine in the prison he will be serving his sentence in, which the BOP did not disclose to media, according to AP.

“For safety and security reasons, we don’t share an inmate’s designated institution until after they have arrived,” a BOP spokeswoman told CNN.

The former Trump confidant was sentenced to 40 months in prison by a federal judge in November after his conviction for lying to Congress, tampering with a witness and obstructing former special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. 

Stone has been living at his home in Florida since his arrest in early 2019.
