Trump defends Giuliani as ‘always looking for corruption’

President Trump on Monday defended his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani as “a good man” and brushed away concerns over the potential legal problems surrounding the former New York City mayor.

The president was asked as he departed for a speech and fundraiser in Chicago whether he believes Giuliani is in trouble amid reports that he is under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

{mosads}”No, I think Rudy Giuliani is a great crime fighter,” Trump said. “He was the greatest mayor in New York City history, but he’s been a great crime fighter.

“He’s always looking for corruption, which is what more people should be doing,” Trump added. “He’s a good man.”

The president offered a similar defense on Friday when he was asked whether he’s concerned about a criminal investigation into Giuliani.

Giuliani has been at the center of efforts by the president and his allies to get Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter. Giuliani has openly admitted to seeking out damaging information about the Bidens, defending it as working for his client and attempting to root out corruption.

His activities in Ukraine are reportedly the subject of a U.S. attorney’s office investigation. Two of his associates — Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman — have been arrested on campaign finance law violations.

Democrats subpoenaed Giuliani to testify as part of their impeachment inquiry into Trump, but Giuliani said he would not cooperate.
