Pence: Trump has been ‘completely vindicated’ with Ukraine call readout

Vice President Pence said Wednesday that President Trump has been “completely vindicated” by the released transcript of his call with Ukraine’s president.

“The president did nothing wrong,” Pence told Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs in an exclusive interview that aired Wednesday night. “He had a conversation with a world leader [and] spoke about issues that were appropriate issues related to our strong relationship with Ukraine, and it was nothing more than that.”

“From the day after the election, Democrats have been trying to overturn the results” of the 2016 election, Pence said, and “it’s just not going to work.”

Pence’s comments come hours after the Trump administration released five pages of the highly anticipated readout of the president’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that has become subject to increased scrutiny in recent days over reports that Trump urged Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.{mosads}

During the call, the memo shows Trump urging Zelensky to speak with his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, and urging the Ukrainian president to “look into” his unsubstantiated allegations against Biden.

The readout offered new fuel for Democratic lawmakers who on Tuesday launched a formal impeachment inquiry against Trump, while some Republicans brushed off the memo as nothing new and nothing to justify articles of impeachment.

Trump, who authorized the memo’s release, had argued it would show that there was nothing improper in his call. During a press conference after it became public, he accused Democrats of a “hoax” and a “witch hunt.”

“Two-and-a-half years of reckless accusations — obstruction, collusion with the Russians, all of that panned out to be nothing,” Pence told Dobbs on Wednesday. “I think the American people have had enough.”
