Scaramucci: Trump is in a ‘full-blown meltdown’ and it’s ‘gonna get way worse’

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci on Tuesday said that President Trump is in a “meltdown,” adding that he thinks that the president’s behavior will likely only grow more erratic in coming weeks.

In an appearance on CNN, Scaramucci said that Republicans in Congress had a “responsibility” to ensure that the president was fit for office while pointing to a clip of Trump claiming to have “never heard” of a Category 5 hurricane striking land as evidence of Trump’s “mental decline.”

{mosads}“So, saying that he’s never heard of a Category 5 hurricane is … emblematic of what’s going on in terms of the mental decline,” Scaramucci said.

“If you look at a whole pattern of his speech … the way he’s talking — look, I’m not a psychiatrist, I’m not going to clinically evaluate him, but just as a voter you’re saying, ‘look, the guy’s obviously in mental decline.’ What I find sad and troubling about the whole thing is he’s got a group of people around who are supposedly loyal to him and like him who are not addressing it,” Scaramucci continued.

“He’s in full-blown meltdown, and you’ve got a group of people who have made a decision that they are going to cover this up rather than clean it up.”

Scaramucci’s comments come weeks after he had a public blow-up with the president.

The former White House aide referred to Trump’s visit to an El Paso, Texas, hospital following a mass shooting in the city a “catastrophe,” prompting a response from the president, who said that Scaramucci “knows very little about me.”

Scaramucci then compared the president to the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, telling CNN that Trump was becoming unhinged and erratic, saying that the GOP should replace him at the top of the presidential ticket in 2020.

“I got fired two years ago, and I’ve tried to stay very loyal to him and very loyal to the agenda because I think the policies are very, very good for the American people. But the rhetoric is so charged and so divisive that we have to all just take a step back now and say, ‘what are we doing, actually?’” Scaramucci said last month.

“Sound and reasonably minded men and women in the Republican Party will say, ‘wait a minute we can’t do this.’ He is giving people a license to hate, to provide a source of anger, to go after each other, and he does it on his Twitter account,” he added.

Trump, on Twitter, suggested that his former aide was jealous and angry after having left the White House after just 10 days as communications director.

“Scaramucci, who like so many others had nothing to do with my Election victory, is only upset that I didn’t want him back in the Administration (where he desperately wanted to be). Also, I seldom had time to return his many calls to me. He just wanted to be on TV!” Trump tweeted.
