Trump says he’ll meet with ‘inner city pastors’ amid racial controversies

President Trump said Monday he will meet with a group of “Inner City Pastors” amid a series of racial controversies he has stoked with his attacks on black lawmakers.

Trump tweeted the meeting, which was not previously on his public schedule, will take place at 2 p.m.

He did not say which pastors would attend and the White House did not immediately provide further details.

{mosads}The president has spent the past several days criticizing House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and his home city of Baltimore, attacks that followed his heated criticism of four minority, first-term Democratic lawmakers known as the “squad.”

His comments targeting black public figures have been widely condemned by critics, who say he is seeking to exploit racial divisions for political gain during his 2020 reelection race.

He opened a new line of attack Monday morning by targeting the Rev. Al Sharpton.
