Trump to speak at Lincoln Memorial on July 4th

U.S. Park Police and D.C. city officials reportedly said that President Trump plans to address the nation at the Lincoln Memorial on the 4th of July. 

U.S. Park Police spokesman Sgt. Eduardo Delgado told The Washington Post that the president definitely intends to speak there and that Park Police would coordinate with the White House to work on security. {mosads}

“It’s still kind of an evolving event,” he said. 

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) on Wednesday also told the Post that National Park Service officials informed her that Trump plans to speak at the memorial. The newspaper reports that she has previously opposed him speaking there due to security and logistics concerns.

She told the paper in the interview that she hopes that he does not employ divisive rhetoric. 

“The president can speak at any event that he wants to speak at,” she said. “And my great hope would be that he recognizes that the event is a unifying event that celebrates the birthday of our nation.”

The Hill has reached out to the mayor’s office for comment. 

The Post also reported that the Trump administration plans to move the fireworks display, normally held at the National Mall, to West Potomac Park.

The Washington Post previously reported that Trump planned to speak on July 4 at the memorial, and had notified city officials.
