Meghan McCain: Trump is a ‘child’ who will always be ‘deeply threatened’ by my dad

Meghan McCain, the daughter of late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), on Wednesday denounced President Trump as a “child” who will always be “deeply threatened” by her father, following a report that the White House wanted the USS John McCain “out of sight” during the president’s visit to Japan.

“Trump is a child who will always be deeply threatened by the greatness of my dads incredible life,” Meghan McCain tweeted. “There is a lot of criticism of how much I speak about my dad, but nine months since he passed, Trump won’t let him RIP. So I have to stand up for him.”

“It makes my grief unbearable,” she added.

Her comments came just moments after The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration asked the U.S. Navy to make sure a warship named after John McCain would be “out of sight” for Trump’s recent visit to Japan.

{mosads}“USS John McCain needs to be out of sight,” an email outlining the president’s plans for the trip read, the Journal reported. “Please confirm #3 will be satisfied.”

The newspaper noted that officials, including acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, approved measures so the ship would not be visible during Trump’s trip.

The ship has been stationed at the Yokosuka Naval Base near the USS Wasp, where Trump delivered Memorial Day remarks and visited U.S. officers. A tarp was reportedly hung over John McCain’s name before Trump’s address.

The White House declined to comment to the Journal on why the request was made. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

John McCain, who died of brain cancer last August, repeatedly feuded with the president during Trump’s time in the White House. Trump has lashed out at John McCain on numerous occasions, even after the late senator’s death, and frequently has brought up the his “no” vote on the GOP’s attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Trump in March escalated his criticism, accusing John McCain of handing a dossier of explosive claims about Trump’s ties to Russia to the FBI for “very evil purposes.”

He also said at the time that he was “never a fan of John McCain, and I never will be.”

Meghan McCain suggested Trump spend more time with his family following the attacks, adding that “no one will ever love you the way they loved my father.”
