Rolling Thunder founder: Trump ‘means well’ but changes need to happen for parade to return

A founder and director of Rolling Thunder said Sunday that President Trump “means well” in saying the veterans advocacy group could hold its annual motorcycle rally in Washington, D.C. next year, but a lot would need to change in order for that to happen.

“Well, I know he means well,” former Army Sgt. Artie Muller told CSPAN. “I don’t know what the story is with them working it out with us.

“There would have to be a lot of discussion and a lot of changes for everybody who comes here and our organizations that help with this together,” he added.

{mosads}ABC News reported Friday that Muller said this year’s event would likely be the last. He cited increasing costs and frequent alleged harassment from law enforcement.

Trump tweeted on Saturday that he would be happy to help the group, which seeks to bring accountability for prisoners of war and those missing in action, obtain permits and praised the bikers for their patriotism.

He followed up on Sunday morning with another tweet saying, “The Great Patriots of Rolling Thunder WILL be coming back to Washington, D.C. next year, & hopefully for many years to come.”

“It is where they want to be, & where they should be. Have a wonderful time today, the president added. “Thank you to our great men & women of the Pentagon for working it out!”
