Trump says Schiff should be forced to resign

President Trump said Thursday that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) should be forced to resign from Congress.

“Congressman Adam Schiff, who spent two years knowingly and unlawfully lying and leaking, should be forced to resign from Congress!” the president said in an early morning tweet.

{mosads}The tweet comes after Schiff told The Washington Post that he believes evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia “undoubtedly” exists and can be found by his committee, even though a summary of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation said there was not evidence to support that conclusion.

Schiff said that the special counsel’s investigators did not look at whether Trump was subject to the influence of foreign powers, adding that his committee would continue to pursue an investigation into whether the president’s campaign worked with Russia or other countries in 2016.

Schiff has long claimed that there is evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, saying in the months leading up to the summary of Mueller’s report that there was evidence of collusion in “plain sight.”

Since Attorney General William Barr released a summary of Mueller’s report, several other Republicans have also called on Schiff to step down.

Among them was White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, who said earlier this week that Schiff “has no right as somebody who has been peddling a lie day after day after day unchallenged.”

Schiff on Monday dismissed calls for his resignation.

“I’m more than used to attacks from my GOP colleagues, and I would expect nothing less,” he said.

Trump often criticizes the congressman, and earlier this month called him “little shifty Schiff” after Democrats pushed to investigate the president’s finances.
