Trump to visit Alabama following deadly tornadoes

President Trump will travel to Alabama on Friday to tour damage from a string of deadly tornadoes that devastated the state.

“It’s been a tragic situation and but a lot of good work is being done,” Trump said at a White House event.

The president did not provide further details about his visit, but said he would be meeting with Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R). He said the governor has been in “constant touch” with the administration about the disaster response.{mosads}

Twenty-three people were killed last weekend when a pair of tornadoes ripped through Lee County in the eastern part of the state. Three children, ages 6, 9 and 10, were among those killed in the deadliest U.S. tornado since 2013.

Trump said Monday that he directed the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to “to give the A Plus treatment to the Great State of Alabama and the wonderful people who have been so devastated by the Tornadoes.”

The president is planning to spend the weekend at his Palm Beach, Fla., club after the visit, according to a Federal Aviation Administration advisory.
