Biden approval rating drops to 39 percent: survey
President Biden’s approval rating has dropped to 39 percent, according to the latest CNN poll.
The rating is the lowest CNN recorded for Biden this year, down from 41 percent in July and 45 percent in January.
While 39 percent approve of Biden’s job performance as president, 61 percent disapprove, according to the poll released Thursday.
Approval for his handling of the job was above 50 percent at the start of his first year in office, but dropped as low as 38 percent in July of last year, according to the poll. It climbed again to 46 percent in December of last year but has been on a decline in the months since.
The low approval score comes amid overall negative sentiments about the president and the state of the nation, as Biden seeks another term in office.
Fifty-eight percent of respondents said they think Biden’s policies have worsened economic conditIons in the country, up from 50 percent who said the same a year ago.
Just 26 percent said they think Biden has the stamina and sharpness to serve effectively as president, down from 32 percent in March.
In a hypothetical match-up between Biden and former President Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 GOP nomination, the pair were statistically tied at 46 and 47 percent support, respectively.
Conducted Aug. 25-31, the poll surveyed 1,503 U.S. adults and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
