Ex-CIA chief rips into Trump for ‘iceberg of lies, deceit, corruption, & criminality’

Former CIA Director John Brennan on Friday blasted President Trump for his defense of a business deal he pursued in Russia in the months leading up to the presidential election.

“The iceberg of lies, deceit, corruption, & criminality is steadily but surely surfacing, despite the efforts of many in high places to keep it submerged,” Brennan wrote on Twitter.

“How large is the iceberg & who will be found clinging to it? The wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine,” he continued.

His remarks came in response to tweets sent by Trump on Friday morning, in which he defended his efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow during the presidential election as “very legal & very cool.”

Trump repeated claims that he had done nothing illegal in his efforts in Russia after his past business dealings came under scrutiny Thursday when his former personal attorney Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to making false statements to Congress about the matter.

{mosads}“Oh, I get it! I am a very good developer, happily living my life, when I see our Country going in the wrong direction (to put it mildly),” the president tweeted from Buenos Aires, Argentina, shortly before beginning his day at the Group of 20 summit. “Against all odds, I decide to run for President & continue to run my business-very legal & very cool, talked about it on the campaign trail.”

“Lightly looked at doing a building somewhere in Russia. Put up zero money, zero guarantees and didn’t do the project. Witch Hunt!” Trump wrote in a second tweet.

Cohen, who has agreed to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe, said he made two misstatements in 2017 while testifying before two congressional intelligence committees.

According to court documents, Cohen admitted to lying about the president’s Moscow property plans, including his plans to travel to Russia, his contacts with Russian officials in connection with the project and how long the plans were discussed within the Trump Organization.
