President Trump started Thursday on Twitter the same way he ended it on Wednesday, attacking special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign.
“Did you ever see an investigation more in search of a crime?” he asked in an early-morning tweet.
“A total disgrace!” he added.
Trump in a subsequent tweet asked when “will this illegal Joseph McCarthy style Witch Hunt, one that has shattered so many innocent lives, ever end,” adding that it has proven there was “NO Collusion with Russia.”
Wednesday night, Trump tweeted that “so much happening with the now discredited Witch Hunt.”
“This total Hoax will be studied for years!”
Earlier in the day, he retweeted a warning to his critics, showing them behind bars.
He also began Wednesday on Twitter by calling the Russia investigation “our Joseph McCarthy Era!”
{mosads}The tweets followed the special counsel’s assertion in a court filing that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort violated his plea agreement. Mueller’s team alleges that he “committed federal crimes by lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Counsel’s Office on a variety of subject matters, which constitute breaches of the agreement.”
New reports also emerged on Tuesday that Manafort’s attorney had been sharing information with lawyers for Trump about Manafort’s cooperation with the Mueller probe.
Trump did nothing to tamp down speculation that Manafort is seeking a presidential pardon, telling the New York Post on Wednesday that it was not “off the table.”
Wednesday, Trump threatened to declassify documents related to Russia that he claimed would damage Democrats. He has consistently claimed that the probe is run by a “gang” of Democrats.
