White House says cemetery motorcade would’ve been disruptive

The White House said Sunday that President Trump didn’t visit a U.S. military cemetery in the northern part of France because he felt a motorcade would have been disruptive, according to The Associated Press.

Trump was criticized over the weekend for not going to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial in Belleau, where he was supposed to visit to honor Americans who died in World War I.

{mosads}The White House originally said Trump didn’t visit the cemetery because of the weather, saying the trip was canceled because of “scheduling and logistical difficulties caused by the weather.”

But the AP reported Monday that the White House is now saying Trump didn’t want to disrupt roadways in the area with a last-minute motorcade. Arriving at the cemetery by motorcade would have been Trump’s only option, given the bad weather, which grounded Marine One.

Trump was in France over the weekend to recognize the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

On Sunday, he visited a separate cemetery closer to Paris to honor American soldiers who died.
