Pence: ‘There is no place in America for violence or anti-Semitism’

Vice President Pence lamented the shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday and said that “there is no place in America for violence or anti-Semitism and this evil must end.”

{mosads}Speaking at an event for local Republicans in Las Vegas, Pence said that the violence in Pittsburgh was an assault on American values.

“It was not just criminal, it was evil,” he said of the shooting.

“An attack on innocent Americans and an assault on our freedom religion.” 

Pence tweeted about the incident earlier in the day, saying he was praying for those involved.

“Praying for the fallen, the injured, all the families impacted, and our courageous first responders,” he wrote.

Eight people were reported killed and several others wounded on Saturday morning after a gunman opened fire at a synagogue in Squirrel Hill, a neighborhood in Pittsburgh. A suspect, identified in media reports as Robert Bowers, has been taken into custody.
